GOAL 6 – To promote the development and expansion of entrepreneurial activities.

  • Facilitate the formation of higher education seed funds for institutions.
    • Action - Identify best practices on how to prepare the ground work for when a deal presents itself.
    • Action - Establish a seed fund at the institutions through their foundations or other mechanisms to assist student/faculty/staff entrepreneurs.


  • Promote faculty participation in entrepreneurial development. Permit faculty to benefit financially from this effort.
    • Action - Modify institutional policies to encourage faculty participation in economic development beyond service component of contract.


  • Establish avenues to find entrepreneurial management for Oklahoma companies.
    • Action – Build both credit and non-credit courses around entrepreneurship.
    • Action - Establish a statewide Entrepreneurship Institute.


  • Create a small business assistance for entrepreneurial ideas.
    • Action - Continue providing technical assistance to small businesses. Maintain relationships with Oklahoma Small Business Development Center and other local economic development professionals.


  • Work with other local and state organizations on joint projects or efforts to assist entrepreneurs.
    • Action - Create an informational web site with data on all the localization resources available in Oklahoma to assist entrepreneurs and small businesses. Geographical focus.
    • Action - Create a list in hard copy of support services including regional collaborations in economic development.


  • Provide sophisticated level of assistance to entrepreneurs and start-up companies. Work with CareerTech in this effort.
    • Action - Identify advanced technical areas that higher education can “own” and provide as services to companies.
    • Action - Identify gaps between services provides by CareerTech and by higher education to not have duplications.


  • Align efforts and resources of higher education institutions with regional businesses.
    • Action - Establish industry advisory boards for departments. Inform regional businesses of assistance a university has to offer and who to contact.


  • Connect regional higher education institutions to state cluster initiatives.
    • Action - When targeted clusters are identified, determine which programs at each institution provide the best support. Ensure that relevant programs are engaged in the appropriate clusters.


  • Provide assistance to help entrepreneurs grow their companies and move them to the next level.
    • Action - Utilize the business incubation facilities statewide.
