At our September 11th meeting, I plan to suggest to the council that we set a minimum of one goal per quarter that we will establish as an achievable outcome for our organization. I believe by setting achievable goals for ourselves, we can make systematic progress on our workplan that can be shared with the President's Council on a quarterly basis. What are your thoughts?

This is a fine idea, as long as we can agree on a goal and it moves the EDC forward the way we want it to go. By the way, I like the listing of books. We all need to add to it.

An old but useful book

An additional book to consider is "The Ugly American" by William Lederer and Eugene Burdick written in the 1950s. While the subject of the book is American foreign policy, the topic is really economic development and how it is conducted by people with different end goals. It offers perhaps the best insight into what makes economic developers tick and why they get different types of responses from different people they are trying to help. This is a quick and entertaining read, but should stimulate some thought and lead to new ways of providing ED assistance in your local area. (Peter Abramo)
